Quality Leader meets Dubai Leader at 1st Annual MEQA Conference

The 1st Annual Conference of the Middle East Quality Association (MEQA) in March was the setting for an historic meeting between Dr Armand V Feigenbaum and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Shaikh Mohammed was the inaugural recipient of the prestigious Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award in 2006, which was further distinguished by retiring it to the “Exceptional” Category.
The Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award is dedicated to honor men and women in the Arab world for their exemplary leadership in driving their organizations to instigate a quality approach in business and society, and for acting as role models for others to follow. It is meant to encourage the growth and development of organization competitiveness through the instigation of exemplary leadership. It is also meant to place emphasis on quality and the drive to continuous improvement, to encourage the practice of long term thinking and sustainable performance, and the behavioral mindset that builds successions of effective and able leaders at all levels.

This year Dr Feigenbaum attended the 1st Annual MEQA Congress in Dubai as Honored Guest to deliver the opening Keynote Address and to be personally present for the awarding of the 2nd Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award which was conferred on His Excellency Abdulla Hasan Saif in the Accomplished Leader category. Abdulla Hasan Saif has an illustrious career and has held several important posts, including Minister of Finance and National Economy, Bahrain, Governor of Arab Monetary Fund, and Governor of International Monetary Fund. He was chosen for his outstanding leadership in the successful management of an economy with limited natural resources as well as a long list of accomplishments which include sustaining and expanding the country’s international relations across cultures and regions.

The Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award is named after Dr Armand Val Feigenbaum, known as the ‘Father of Total Quality Control.’ He is the originator of Total Quality Management, the approach to quality and profitability that has profoundly influenced management strategy in the competition for world markets in the USA, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He has been awarded numerous medals and honors by quality associations around the world. Several editions of his popular book, Total Quality Control have been published in many languages. He is an honorary advisor to e-TQM College, Dubai, and supports the college’s endeavors in spreading quality knowledge in the Arab world.
Most recently Armand (Val) and his brother and business partner Dr. Donald S. Feigenbaum have co-authored The Power of Management Capital (published by McGraw-Hill), a guidebook for management survival in the 21st Century. Dr. A.V. Feigenbaum is president and CEO of General Systems Co, Inc., an international engineering firm headquartered in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. |
